What is The Dip?
The Dip is the change in dopamine levels shown in the video. It is the downside that follows disappointment; we've looked to our device for a 'hit' and it hasn't been fulfilled. We then crave another pick me up and start searching on our phone for any source that might provide it. We get trapped in a vicious cycle of seeking the next small high from our device.
The Dip creates an unstoppable urge to check our phone.
Watch this video to understand the chemistry behind why behaviour is changing.
Ensure device use supports and connects rather than undermines the fabric of your family.
Devices are changing our lives and the way our families interact.
So many of us are dependent. The impact is altering society.
When we ignore the issue, our children lose their tempers, our partners may be distant and we procrastinate and may succumb to an urge to check our phones.
The Dip explains what is happening and how to regain control.

I strive to balance the privacy of my children, friends and work contacts. I think that as parents tackle these situations it is useful to describe specific examples. When I refer to these examples (either in my blog or on The Dip Community Facebook page), they may be situations that I have experienced or those that I have been told through various sources. I will always write as a mum with a Clinical Psychologist expertise. I may describe my daughter or son, in which case, please be aware that I may not actually be referring to my own children.

“Clinical Psychologist Dr Danielle Einstein outlines simple practical steps that families can take to reclaim their families from the grip of the insidious screen addiction creep. I used my pencil and underlined great ideas on nearly every page. The practical steps are backed by current research and down to earth “Einstein” recommendations that make a whole lot of sense. The book is a short and easy read but packs a lot of punch.”
“I recommend that every family gets a copy and reads it before having a family meeting to create their own Tech agreement.”
“Well done Dr Einstein.”
